In 1981 the original composition of Black Lacebroke up. Drummer Terry Dobson began to collaborate with Ringo Star. Left the team and vocalist Steve Sholey. The band continued to exist as a duet of Alan Barton and Colin Gibb. Strange as it may seem, these changes have benefited the group. The Black Lace of this sample is perceived by fans of their work as a classic band. The first single recorded in the new lineup was the instrumental composition The Birdie Song, written in the fifties by the Swiss accordionist Werner Thomas. This work is known in Russia under the title «Dance of small ducklings.» The single did not have much success because another English band, The Tweets released at the same time its version of The Birdie song, which turned out to be more successful.
Two years later, the duo managed to conquer the British charts. Their single Superman was in the top ten of the national chart. The group was awarded a silver disc on the basis of sales of this song.

In the same 1987, Alan Barton suddenly leftgroup, standing on the replacement of the departed from Smokie for the sake of Chris Norman’s solo career.
