The series follows the story of an unemployed guy, Takemichi Hanagaki who lives a miserable life in his small rented apartment. One day after hearing the news of the death of his only girlfriend way back from middle school, Takemichi becomes depressed and sad.
At the peak of his tough time, a sudden incident sends him 12 years back in time where he finds himself back to middle school days. Once a loser, Takemichi aims for the top of the Tokyo Manji Gang so that he can turn back the past events in his favour and save the life of Hinata.

As Lena gets to know Shinei and the rest of the Spearhead Squadron, she becomes sympathetic to his people’s plight and tries to help them. At the same time, Lena and Shinei learn a dark secret: the war between Republic and the Empire is not what it seems.

These races are filled with danger, and some of the most iconic underground skateboarders settle their beef (yes, that’s the term the anime uses) in S. Canadian transfer student Langa is more into snowboarding, but with the help of Reki, he starts skating and participating in S. Conflict arises as the creator of S is more devilish than he seems, and Langa begins to outperform Reki.
Sk8 is special because its characters make it special. With its large cast of great characters (Cherry stans, unite!) and interesting backstories, it’s the perfect short sports anime to satisfy any itch you may have in 12 episodes. —JL

Having a perfect 100% RT rating, the Kyohei Ishiguro (of Your Lie in April fame) movie blends soul-stirring storytelling with watercolor artwork to produce a memorable tale of human connection. Ishiguro’s reminiscent beats of tender romance embrace the viewer in an inviting cocoon, getting out of which seems almost brutal.
Mushoku Tensei Part 2

2021 was not like that much exciting as it should have been for the anime fans but somehow, a fresh exciting series like Mushoku Tensei delighted the viewers with its beautiful story. Best anime in 2021? Well, it deserves to be called that so.
Mushoku Tensei also termed ‘Jobless Reincarnation’ follows the story of a 34-year-old jobless guy who dies in a road accident in an attempt to save someone. Later on, he finds himself being reincarnated in a new world, as a baby, where he goes by the name of Rudeus Greyrat.
As a baby, he starts his gifted life once again in this exciting magical world and explores the fundamentals of magic to help him in his adventurous journey. In the beginning, the series is funny & kinda erotic but as soon as you move forward you’ll get to see the intense and interesting side of this show.

Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen was the breakout anime success of 2020 and continued strong in 2021. The story follows the young Yuji Itadori, a good-hearted school boy who one day eats an actual finger, which served as a vessel for a powerful demon called Sukuna. After consuming the finger, Itadori gets taken in by the questionable, but powerful mentor Gojo Satoru, who assembles a Naruto-like cast of three central characters who work together to defeat the monsters known as curses in their world.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a show that plays with the tropes of shonen anime. Whereas other shows like it tend to focus on super-human protagonists who magically power up just when the going gets rough, Jujutsu Kaisen starts with Itadori’s own weakness and him begging for the demon inside to save him.
The show starts off a bit slow, but pays off to those who spend just a little more time with it. The characters — and its women especially — are presented with care, and the three main characters develop an endearing dynamic reminiscent of siblings who like to pick on each other. Sticking around will show some of Studio Mappa’s finest work, as later fight sequences are some of the best animation to come from the studio yet. Basically, Jujutsu Kaisen is the perfect show for long-time shonen fans who are looking for something that isn’t afraid to venture off the well-trodden paths of its predecessors and conjure up something a little bit darker, a bit stranger. —AD

The story is set during the late 19th century when Great Britain was the greatest empire in the world. It follows the story of an orphan James Moriarty who goes by the name William James Moriarty when he and his younger brother are adopted into the Moriarty family.
As a young man, he seeks to remove the ills caused by England’s strict class system. Alongside his brothers Albert and Louis, James sets on a journey to change the filthy world they live in even if blood must be spilled.
HoriMiya — Available on Hulu & Crunchroll
An amalgam of the two feature characters’ names, Horimiya is a romance anime revolving around the budding relationship between the timid homebody Kyokoy Hori and the timid boy with a dark side Izumi Miyamura. While it doesn’t do much to escape from genre norms, it’s an adorable single-season series that fans of slice of life romance series will thoroughly enjoy.
While Horimiya mostly focuses on the two main characters, it also places a not-insignificant emphasis on their classmates and friends and the relationships they share with those around them. All in all, while not groundbreaking, it’s a great example of the genre at its best.

Expectations from Studio Ghibli’s very first 3D CG animated film were a mix of concern and cautious optimism. Earwig and the Witch proved the fears were true. With its abysmal 30% RT rating, one can probably surmise what the movie had to offer, or the lack of it. Directed by Goro Miyazaki, son of legendary filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, the movie was regrettably lifeless.
A plot with no substance, forgettable music, and wooden animation far removed from the perfection expected from a Studio Ghibli title, the less said about this misfire, the better.
5 Komi Can’t Communicate Follows An Anxiety-Ridden Girl Who Wants To Make Friends — 8.39
This slice-of-life series came directly out of Shonen Sunday, proving that there’s more to the shonen genre than just action series. Komi Can’t Communicate has a pretty appealing and straightforward hook. Shouko Komi is seen as perfect in her school thanks to her looks and her grace…but it turns out she has such crippling anxiety she can’t even talk, and can only communicate by writing on blackboards.
Komi has a dream of making one hundred friends while in high school, something she wouldn’t have much of a shot fulfilling if not for Tadano, who agrees to help her and becomes her very first friend.

Set in a world of anthropomorphic animals, Odd Taxi follows the story of Odokawa, a 41-year old walrus taxi driver whose parents abandoned him in elementary school, leaving him generally asocial. However, he usually has conversations with other animal inhabitants who ride in his taxi on their respective journeys around Tokyo, where the series is set.
Odokawa’s conversations with these people unravel into a series of mysteries and acts of violence, including that of a missing high school girl. Because of the case of the missing girl, the police have been tracking leads back to him, and now both the yakuza and cops are on his tail.
Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
In a time where every type of isekai is being developed, Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation takes a joyful and wholehearted approach to the genre. The series follows a 34-year old underachiever, who dies after being run over by a bus only to start a new life in a new world as an infant. Rudy is reborn with the baggage of his former existence, which has caused extensive trauma and depression — that of being an underachiever, an outcast, unloved and bullied. Rudy will learn to seize every opportunity this new adventure has to offer, befriending countless new friends while finally having the courage to do what he has always dreamed of. -Narz
3 Mushoku Tensei Part 2 Finishes Rudeus’ Journey Through The Demon Continent — 8.65
Mushoku Tensei was a breakout hit during the winter. The series is hailed as the light novel that started many of the isekai tropes fans have fallen in love with today, with Rudeus Greyrat being the reincarnation of a nerd that risked his life to save someone else. In this new world, Rudeus has vowed to do his very best.
In season two, Rudeus tries to make it off the Demon Continent alongside his friends Rujierd and Eris, but just because he’s able to escape doesn’t mean more adventures aren’t waiting. Studio Bind has done a solid job transforming this from light novel to anime, and hopefully fans have plenty of future seasons waiting for them.
