Featuring a complex story based around time travel that can honestly be somewhat hard to wrap your head around if you aren’t paying attention, the first few episodes might admittedly be slow. However, stick around, and you’ll bear witness to some of the finest anime episodes ever made.

KonoSuba — God’s Blessing On This Wonderful World: «The» Comedy Isekai

One of the only comedy series on here, Konosuba might not be the one people were expecting. Many might have been thinking Cromartie High or possibly even Aggretsuko would take this spot, but Konosuba takes the cake. Why? Well, while the other shows might be funnier in some situations, and might’ve influenced more in the long run, Konosuba found the best balance. It’s one of the more unique concepts for a comedy, has influenced an absurd amount of “comedy Isekai” going forward, and is popular overall.

Truly, the adventures of Kazuma, Aqua, Darkness, Megumi, and more are gut-busting to watch, and it’s a great anime to just spend a day binging while cracking up.

Ghost in the Shell started off as a manga but became more famous after its anime adaptation came out in 1995. The movie still looks great and has some amazing action, ideas, and music; however, it doesn’t have the time to explore the characters in a significant way.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, which consists of two full-length seasons and a movie, manages to strike a better balance. Characters seem more human, especially the Major, who doesn’t come off as a total robot. Don’t worry, as there is still plenty of cool cyberpunk action.

Although technically not an anime, Castlevania seems to take inspiration from Japanese animation, and it also has classic roots in gaming. The story follows Trevor Belmont and is a loose adaptation of the third game as well as Castlevania: Curse of Darkness.

The Netflix show includes some other nods to the franchise’s legacy as well, and it might be the best adaptation the gaming industry has seen. The first season is a bit slow, but Castlevania picks up more and more as the story goes on. The first series has now wrapped up with four seasons.

Black Clover: The Best Of The New Age Shonen

With lots of attention, understandably, around Jujutsu Kaisen and Demon Slayer, we would love to shine some light on one of the best new-age shonen out there in Black Clover. While the start may be slow for some, the world-building, character development, and action are next to none and are worthy of the praise it’s been getting.

Seeing Asta grow as a person is similar to seeing Naruto overcome his shortcomings and is truly inspiring to watch unfold. Lastly, in the manga, a significant twist happens that we cannot wait to see adapted into the Anime. If there’s any new-age shonen you need to watch, make it Black Clover, you won’t regret it!

The Monogatari Series: Therapeutic Psychological Drama

The Monogatari Series has 14 distinct arcs spread across three seasons, giving any newcomer lots to chew on and digest. While there are many ways one could describe the appeal of this series, nothing really does this supernatural, psychological drama justice. While the random instances of fanservice or extreme depictions of gore will turn some away, the characters and intriguing plot will suck many in and won’t let go.

Aside from Evangelion, Monogatari is the best-selling anime/manga series of the 21st century, and that doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone that watched it. Furthermore, the music in this series is top-notch and adds so much to every scene and emotionally driven moment. Monogatari is a therapy session with incredibly weird and wild concepts that will evoke a wide range of emotions from you each session. And that’s why we love it so much.

With just 11 episodes, Terror In Resonance makes for a perfect binge for fans of underrated psychological anime series. The thriller starts off with a few youngsters stealing an atom bomb and threatening to destroy Tokyo until they get answers to government secrets. The attackers have had their own share of personal trauma which they wish to overcome, as they are the survivors of a covert operation to develop humans into weapons. This dark version of the present forms the setting, and the series delves heavily into concepts of authoritarianism and the trustworthiness of governing bodies. It doesn’t shy away from its depiction of violence and terrorism to explore notions around what a perfect «modern society» would look like.

1 Attack On Titan: The Final Season

Attack On Titan continues to be one of the biggest anime series of all time even as it crawls toward its conclusions. Though the series’ initial seasons were developed by Wit Studio, MAPPA stepped in for the final one. As has been the premise of the series, the final season continues the post-apocalyptic war between humanity and Titans. However, unlike other dark fantasy and sci-fi anime, Attack on Titan benefits from an underlying philosophy behind its multi-layered characters as they discover their origins and history with every subsequent mission. It’s this nuance in the overall writing that definitely sets itself apart from its contemporaries. Attack on Titan: The Final Season is the culmination of more than a decade of storytelling, and the result is MAPPA’s best anime to date.

Samurai Champloo

Set in an alternate reality version of , this story follows a young woman named Fuu who works at a small tea house.

However, once she accidentally spills tea on one of her customers, she becomes increasingly harassed by a group of samurai.

Fortunately, another Samurai, Mugen, steps in and defends her. Unfortunately, he ends up picking a fight with an unwilling and more skilled samurai whose sword fighting is much more developed.

After trashing the tea house and accidentally killing a magistrate’s son, the pair are imprisoned and set up for execution.

Before they can be put to death, Fuu rescues them and hires the two samurai to be her bodyguards as she searches for another samurai who smells of sunflowers.

With an opening like this, it’s easy to see just how much action Samurai Champloo features for fans to eat up.

Between the incredible fight sequences, memorable characters, and unique hip-hop soundtrack, it isn’t hard to fall in love with this series.

Mob Psycho is always in the rankings of the . As action-packed as it is, the anime takes from many other genres such as romance, comedy but best of all, it teaches many lessons to the viewers such as the importance of family and helping the less capable. Many people came for the fights but ended up falling for the main character Mob, a quiet, introverted, and kind esper who is incredibly powerful. He uses his strength for good, working for the sleazy Reigen to exorcise spirits. What makes Mob Psycho a generational anime is that invokes many emotions, sometimes at once. Having said all that, the action is still the cornerstone of the show.

Bleach

Featuring one of the coolest anime girls with green hair, Bleach is one of the most popular and well-known animes, and for good reason.

The action never stops once Ichigo Kurosaki’s family is attacked by a Hollow, a corrupt spirit that consumes human souls, which leads to him meeting Rukia, a Soul Reaper who is injured during the attack.

When Rukia is unable to regain her powers, Ichigo is tasked with taking on the spirits plaguing his town with the help of his friends, each of whom has their own unique powers.

Although watching these high schoolers learn to support each other both on and off the battle, the teens quickly have their work cut out for them once it’s revealed that Hollows aren’t the only threat that humanity has to contend with.

While many anime fans are familiar with this series, if you haven’t yet gotten around to watching it, you definitely will want to stop missing out.

A story about young Bill Nye, trapped in a post-apocalyptic world 3700 years in the future where everyone was turned to stone — who wouldn’t want to watch an anime about that? Well, that’s basically what Dr. Stone is, as young Senku seems to have all the scientific expertise as all the world’s experts combined.

And his plot concerning reviving modern civilization one invention at a time is an absolute blast to watch unfold. This is one of the first Anime in a long time that feels like it’s actually teaching us while we watch it, and that’s something special. Plus, TMS Entertainment does such a great job with the adaptation that they even bring the legendary Boichi’s fantastic designs to life.
